1. Kunnioitus toisia kohtaan, ei oleteta / Respect each other, no assumptions
- Muutarha on ystävällinen ja välittävä paikka, jossa toivomme kaikkien tuntevan olevansa turvassa. Vältä tekemästä oletuksia tai ennakkoluuloisia kommentteja sukupuolesta, seksuaalisuudesta, kulttuurista, rodusta, iästä, kyvykkyydestä, kehotyypistä tai mistään muustakaan. Me emme hyväksy esimerkiksi rasismia, ableismia (syrjintää vammaisia ihmisiä kohtaan), sukupuoleen tai seksuaalisuuteen liittyvää syrjintää tai huonoa käytöstä.
- Kysy ja kunnioita ihmisten pronomineja (she, he, they etc) mieluummin kuin sukupuolita omien olettamustesi pohjalta.
ENG:
- This is a friendly and caring place, where we hope everyone feels safe. Avoid making assumptions or prejudiced comments about gender, sexuality, culture, race, age, abilities, body type or anything else. We do not tolerate for example racism, ableism (discrimination against disabled people), discrimination against gender or sexuality or bad behaviour.
- Respect people's pronouns (she, he, they, etc) rather than gendering them according to your own assumptions.
- We don’t tolerate aggressive behaviour or violence. All kind of kink- and slutshaming are forbidden.
Please don’t come in when you have a flu or another similar contagious illness.
2. Kunnioitus tilaa kohtaan / Respect the space
ENG:
- Treat the space and its surroundings better than you would treat your own place. This is someone’s workspace and all our events are Leave No Trace events, so please pack everything you bring away, wash your own dishes and clear your own trash. Take your shoes off and leave them at the door.
- Please support us by following any specific guidelines our event organisers give us with regard to things like cleaning, intoxication and nudity. Having a couple of drinks is fine in some of our events, but if you get into a state of intoxication that threatens your ability to follow this policy, you will be asked to leave the space.
- We want to keep the space accessible to allergic people, so pets only when general consent is granted to bringing pets in the space.
3. Suostumus ennen kaikkea / Get and give consent
- Yksi keino kuvata suostumusta on liikennevaloilla; vihreä-keltainen-punainen.
ENG:
- Whether it’s giving a stranger a hug, revealing information someone has shared with you, joining a new group in a conversation, borrowing someone’s belongings or taking a photograph of the person or their belongings as well as publishing or tagging photos – make sure you ask first. Get specific, clear consent at every stage. Just because you haven’t heard a “no” doesn’t mean it’s a “yes”. If you do hear a “no” you can reply with “thank you!” The other person is doing both of you a favor by respecting their truth, so that you can also trust their “yes”.
- Equally, be confident in giving consent by saying what you do want and stating what your boundaries are. Give people space when they are negotiating, in deep conversation, in a bodywork session, physically intimate, cuddling etc. If you would like to join, seek out eye-contact before you ask. If the eye-contact is avoided, it is signaling a ‘no’.
-One way of giving consent is through traffic lights; green-yellow-red. If you hear someone using code red, make sure the action stops and that people in that situation are ok.
4. Self-care <3
ENG:
- Go where you need to be; be alone when it feels good; be with someone else when it feels good; join a group when it feels good.
- Go recharge and rest when it feels good; express yourself flamboyantly when it feels good. It’s always ok to do nothing 🙂
5. Ei kiusaamista, syrjintää tai väkivaltaa / No bullying & any forms of violence
ENG:
-If you feel comfortable, address challenging issues directly with the people involved. There is no tolerance for bullying, aggressive behaviour or violence in Muutarha space.
- Our team reserves the right to follow-up and handle situations as they arise in ways that feel most comfortable and acceptable to us. In direct threat of violence we will also contact the police.
Ota aikaa ymmärtääksesi täysin heidän kantansa ja mitä he tarvitsevat ennenkuin jaat oman näkökantasi.
- Muista että voit aina kysyä apua muilta Muutarhan jäseniltä jos sinulle on vaikeaa ottaa vastuuta.
- Muutarhaan liitetään jäseniä matalalla kynnyksellä, joten Muutarhalla on myös matala kynnys poistaa henkilöitä yhteisöstä. Jos henkilö on aiheuttanut sinulle hankaluuksia millään tasolla, ota yhteyttä Muutarhan kriisityöryhmään (Yakup, Kassu, Nella). Kriisityöryhmä pyytää asianosaisia kirjoittamaan tekstin asiasta ja välittää tekstit anonyymille paneelille. Paneeli tekee päätöksen henkilön poistamisesta yhteisöstä ja kriisityöryhmä kommunikoi päätöksen asianosaisille.
ENG:
- In case you crossed somebody's boundaries or hurt their feelings, even if unintentionally, be mindful, stay present and listen to them first before doing anything else. Take time to fully understand their position and what they need from you before sharing your own perspective.
- Remember that you can always ask for support from other Muutarha members if you are struggling with taking responsibility.
- Muutarha accepts new members easily, so Muutarha reserves the right to removes people from the community as easily. If someone has caused you any hurt, please contact the crisis group (Yakup, Kassu, Nella). The crisis group will ask people involved to write a text about what has happened, and the crisis group will forward the texts to an anonymous panel. The panel will make a decision about removing a person from the community, and the crisis group will communicate this to the people involved.
7. Oppiminen / Learning
ENG:
- Muutarha community is committed to learning, so that we can continually grow to be a more considerate community, proactively challenging oppression and hierarchy in what we do. We want to create a space where it's possible to hold ourselves accountable, to heal, to learn and to grow together.
- Building safer spaces is an ongoing process; be open to giving and receiving feedback about your own and others’ behaviour. If you don’t understand something, please ask.
IMPORTANT VOCABULARY:
* anti-oppression
Oppression is the use of power to disempower, marginalize, silence or otherwise subordinate one social group or category, often in order to further empower and/or privilege the oppressor. Social oppression may not require formally established organisational support to achieve its desired effect; it may be applied on a more informal, individual basis.
Anti-oppression seeks to recognise the oppressions that exist in our society, and attempt to mitigate its effects and eventually equalise the power imbalances in our communities.
(From The Anti-Oppression Network)
** sex-positivity
The term “sex positive” can be interpreted in different ways. For most, it’s about having positive attitudes about sex and feeling comfortable with one’s own sexual identity and accepting the sexual behaviors of others, as long as the participants consent and feel safe. At the core of sex positivity is the idea of explicit, informed consent, agency within one’s own sexuality, comprehensive sex education, exploring and deconstructing gender norms and promoting body-positivity and self-love. Overall, sex positivity involves understanding sexuality as a natural, healthy, important and enjoyable aspect of life. <3
*** safer spaces
A safer space is a supportive, non-threatening environment that encourages open-mindedness, respect, a willingness to learn from others, as well as physical and mental safety. It is a space that is critical of the power structures that affect our everyday lives, and where power dynamics, backgrounds, and the effects of our behavior on others are prioritized. Everyone who enters a safer space has a responsibility to uphold the values of the space. We say ‘safer’ realizing that not everyone experiences spaces in the same way as others, so any one set of guidelines established to create safety may not meet the requirements of everyone and there may be complications or lapses in fulfilling those guidelines in practice.
(From Coalition for Safer Spaces)
We hope that these guidelines will help people create a space together in which we can all celebrate our bodies, experiences, identities, connections and communities in a way that is intentional, meaningful and respectful to each other. Muutarha team reserves the right to follow-up and handle situations as they arise in ways that feel most comfortable and acceptable to us.
